How do you Spot an 86 Berlinetta ??? It will not be very easy !!! With only 4200 (or so) Berlinettas made in 1986 they are very "few and far between" on the roads today. The 86 Berlinetta used the same interior and exterior as well as the same drive trains as the 85's. One important suspension upgrade can be described....... the front end Frame Rails were now reinforced using a combination of extra bracing. The 82-84 (85?) cars didn't include these braces and there were many problems with stress crack in the drivers side frame rail and/or the radiator support due to the pressure applied against it from the power steering box mounted to that rail.
The most noteworthy change in the 86 Berlinetta interior was the radio. The earlier digital Camaros used a radio that had backlighting that showed thought radio faceplate. The 86 Berlinetta used a redesigned radio that included upgraded electronics as well as backlighting that shown through each button. This may sound like a small detail - but it really made finding the radio buttons MUCH easier when driving the car at night.
A word on badges..... In 1986 the Berlinetta still had a "CAMARO" logo embossed in the dash housing. All the exterior emblems now used a upper case "B" in the signature. The nose header emblem carries a GOLD Bow Tie ( as do all the Berlinetta cars) and the front and rear bumper emblems are plastic. The rear bumper emblem has NO Bow Tie next to it. The sail panel emblems were plastic and the sail emblems and CAMARO fender emblems were still gold colored. Wheel Hub caps also continued to use the newer Berlinetta script.
